Come join us as we shine a light on one of Africa’s greatest sons - the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti. This year marks what would’ve been his 80th birthday and we aim to celebrate this momentous occasion by diving deep into his archives for 4 straight hours, all played - as always - on original vinyl pressings. We’ll also be screening the 1982 documentary “Music is a Weapon” to kick the night off.

About FELA ON VINYL:
Founded in 2016 by deejay/music researcher Juan G, Fela On Vinyl has brought the worldwide Felabration festivities straight to Oakland. It started as an unassuming one-off vinyl night at a local bar and graduated into the premier annual showcase of Fela Kuti’s musical legacy in the bay area. This event is intentionally intimate, welcoming all walks of life to come together and hear the music and - more importantly - the message of one of Africa’s greatest musicians. All of the music heard throughout the night will be played on original vinyl pressings - pops, clicks and all - to highlight the warm tones and frequencies that Fela originally intended for his audience.
