TAIKO / JEGOG
Jiten Daiko + Gamelan Sekar Jaya
On February 27th, Starline presents a raucous double-feature of the loudest, most energetic percussion ensembles in the Bay Area. Originating in the bamboo forests of western Bali, jegog is a rare form of traditional Balinese music that features gigantic bamboo xylophones. Japanese taiko is the dance/martial arts of drumming, combining powerful rhythms with athletic choreography.
Together, Gamelan Sekar Jaya and Jiten Daiko present a mix of traditional, contemporary, and premiere works that aim to spark a new musical dialogue.
