Statement -
So we wanted to mention something about the recent shitstorm murder scene. Typically it is pretty standard for a business to stay non-involved in religion and politics etc.
Well officially we want it to be known WE ARE NOT THAT KIND OF BUSINESS.
We want everyone to know something about our business.
The Starline recognizes the systemic racism, prejudice, intolerance and general fuckery which exists within the fabric of this nation.
Our brothers and sisters of color and identity have endured centuries of violence and hate while so many stood by and have done nothing.
We will not stand by and do nothing. If only in many small ways, our small venue can make a difference and support the fight for what we know is right and the world we believe should be.
We recognize it is our job to uphold a greater set of morals which includes the absolute right of equality and the willingness to fight for it, for yourself and for others.
We recognize that violence against ANYONE is ridiculous and currently absolutely counter-productive.
Our staff, and hopefully our customers, agree to check our privilege and humble ourselves in the face of that which we may assume but not understand. Basically that means - we’re not allowed to be dicks and we must realize that we are all struggling, so we might as well do it together.
And as Alex (bar manager/co-owner) said, "within the walls of the Starline--we are fortunate enough to have an opportunity to foster a space of warmth and safety for everyone, anyone. We are a safe haven for a lot of people on many different levels.”
We are all honored to be here, now, with you and with the ability to do something positive to raise money and awareness for causes that are important. This shit has been going on for so long, let's not forget...it has to end. And until it does, we need to be working against it.
